Dr. Dolapo Fasawe
General Manager, LASEPA

Dr. Dolapo Fasawe, is a Public Health practitioner who is passionate about healthcare in developing countries. She has played a pivotal role in engaging state governments and non-governmental organizations towards improved healthcare service delivery, innovations and initiatives across Nigeria.

Education

She received her MBBS Degree at Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife, holds a Master’s Degree in Public Health from the Lagos State University College of medicine in 2008 and a diploma in International Health consultancy from the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (2011).

Professional Career

Before she joined the service of the Lagos State Government, Fasawe had worked as a Medical intern at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile- Ife . She was also a one-time Medical Officer with Mushin local government where she was engaged with managing the outpatient department of hospital and was also involved in preventive and primary care service like immunization clinic, STD counseling and adolescent reproductive health and community screening project for non-communicable diseases.

Apart from this, Dr. Fasawe also served as a Medical Officer with Duro Soleye hospitals, Allen Avenue Ikeja and was in charge of retainer ship for various corporate organizations, managing inpatient & outpatients and performing minor surgeries.

As an employee of the Lagos State Government, Dr. Fasawe is known as a highly energetic, dependable, loyal and resourceful officer with excellent ability to multitask and add value to achieve results. This public health physician has played several pivotal roles in ensuring first class health care service delivery innovations and initiative in Lagos State. Consequently, she was recommended for a special advancement and promotion to the level of a Director in 2015.

Dr. Fasawe Adedolapo Ayokunle has served as the coordinator of the State Special Health Programs in the last 11 years with excellent performance and achievements.She pioneered and coordinated 28 outings of the Eko Free Health mission to various LGA in the state where over 800,000 Lagosians benefited. She also serves as project coordinator for Lagos State Motor Park Health and Safety Program initiated to create awareness, educate and counsel drivers on health issues – particularly issues related to the harmful consumption of alcohol and illicit drugs.

Dolapo is the pioneer Desk Officer for Mental Health Programs and facilitates necessary policy initiatives as well as development of a needed New Mental Health Bill for the Lagos State Government. Which was passed into law in January, 2019. Furthermore, she facilitated the Lagos State Livable City Conference in November 2013 to design a clearer understanding of the emerging issues that come along with a mega city such as Lagos State.

With more than 17 years’ experience in pioneering new models of providing sustainable, efficient and effective health-impacting programs, She has ensured that gaps seen in various demographics enjoy access to primary health services and specialty programs aimed at the overall improvement in the health status of communities.

Additionally, she has been instrumental in creating a portal for healthcare data collection and analysis which eventually translated into specific programs, interventions and policies in various states in Nigeria.

Dr. Fasawe among others has the following as some of her scope of work with the Lagos State Government:

– Pioneered and coordinated the Lagos State Free limb deformity corrective surgery and rehabilitative programme; over 600 under privileged with various limb deformities have been successfullyrehabilitated from 2004 till date.

– Pioneered and coordinated the Lagos State Free Cleft Lip and palate reconstructive surgery programme; over 400 under privileged with various facial deformities have been successfully rehabilitated from 2005 till date.

– Pioneer and coordinated 28 outings of the Eko Free Health mission to various LGA in the state: where over 800,000 people benefited from various forms of medical interventions e.g. surgeries, dental procedures, blindness prevention services, HIV/AIDS counseling and testing -2007 till date.

– Merit award for the most popular health programme in 2009 Eko free health Programme (taking health care to the grassroots)

– Liaise with international organization s for sponsorship & support of the Lagos State free health Scheme.

– Sourcing for donation of medical Equipment to Lagos State.

– Medical Doctors exchange programme in conjunction with hospitals in Europe and United State.

– Focal person for Lagos State / PATHS 2 partnership.

– Focal person for UNFPA Development Programme in the health of Lagos state.

– Focal person for Lagos State Motor Park Health and Safety Program.

– Lagos State Mental Health Desk Officer.

– Coordinated the State Emergency Public Health Information Strategy for the Ebola Virus Disease Outbreak in Lagos State in 2014.

– Coordinated a statewide National HIV/AIDS Awareness Campaign in 2 Southwestern states in Nigeria, reaching over 40,000 people and performing HIV Counseling and Testing for over 10,000 beneficiaries in December 2015.

– The best programme of the year given by the Lagos State Ministry of Health: Limb deformity corrective and rehabilitative surgery program 2004,2005.

– The Best program of the year given by Lagos state Ministry Of Health: Cleft lip & palate repair and reconstructive surgery programme 2006.

– The distinguished public service Award by the Pan Africa Society, USA OCT 2006.

– Public Service Award in appreciation of outstanding gift of time, diligence to Duty. July 2007.

– Lagos Merit Award Presented to Medical Mission in recognitions of the program’s contribution to human capital development in health sector 2009.

– Best presentation skill demonstrated during the short course in international health consultancy, Liverpool, England May 2011.

– National Productivity Order of Merit Awards for Years 2011 /2012.
