The Engineering Unit functions includes:
MANDATES/FUNCTIONS OF THE DEPARTMENT
1. Review the design proposals for pollution abatement facilities and approve same, considered adequate to meet environmental standards acceptable within the state.
2. Supervise and monitor the construction and installation of engineering abatement facilities already approved for construction/installation.
3. Provide engineering consultancy services to varied environmental nuisances and challenges.
4. Study and evaluate the details of all technical reports submitted to the agency such as EIA, EA, EAR, PIA etc.
5. Carry out compliance monitoring of industrial facilities for assessment of the functionality of the abatement facilities.
6. Conduct maintenance operations of the agency building and Zonal offices including both mechanical and electrical asset within the agency.
7. Supervise all construction and civil works on the agency’s projects and building maintenance.
8. Collate data and provision of details on the number of facilities with effective and functional pollution abatement facilities.
9. Collaborate with relevant unit/departments within the agency on industrial facilities that defaults on commencing/completion of their abatement facilities.
10. Render job completion certification for commissioning of technical installation.
11. Facilitate, supervise and monitor remediation of polluted sites within the state

Q1. What are the procedures to put in place a Pollution Abatement Plant (PAP)?
Ans:
i. Engage a LASEPA-accredited consultant with specialty in any of Chemical, Environmental or Civil Engineering
iii. Upon review, Provisional Approval is given for the construction to begin.
Q2. Why do I need an Effluent Discharge Permit?
Ans:
i. The permit is a license to regulate trade industrial effluent discharged into our natural environment by facilities.
